Real Rest
Introduction
Isaiah 28:9-13 (NIV)
(emphasis mine)
Who is it he is trying to teach?
To whom is he explaining his message?
…
For it is:
"Do and do, do and do,
rule on rule, rule on rule;
a little here, a little there."
Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues
God will speak to this people,
to whom He said,
"This is the resting place,
let the weary rest";
and, "This is the place of repose"--
but they would not listen.
So then, the word of the Lord to them will become:
Do and do, do and do,
rule on rule, rule on rule;
a little here, a little there--
so that they will go and fall backward,
be injured and snared and captured.
By 1995 I had known the Lord for twenty-two years. Although I wasn’t aware of it, His Word had become to me "Do and do, rule on rule" and I had "fallen backward, been injured, snared, and captured." But Jesus came "…to proclaim freedom for the captives and release for the prisoners…" (Isaiah 61:1). In January of that year I became aware that He was beckoning me out of the "Do and do, rule on rule" prison and calling me into that resting place, that place of repose--into His Real Rest.
